Alcatraz to Angel Island
A different type of Alcatraz ‘escape’ swim. Swim from Alcatraz to Angel Island. It’s a more challenging swim than Alcatraz to San Francisco, crossing the current and two shipping channels. This is not a swim for beginners and swimmers must swim this course freestyle (unless you are an Olympic breastroke or backstroke swimmer) to make the crossing.
December water temperatures are expected to be 55F/12.7C or below. While we swim year round in only a swimsuit, cap, and goggles – we’re acclimated. Swim in a swimsuit, wetsuit, or your birthday suit! Just swim and enjoy yourself.
How we’re different:
We swim Alcatraz all the time… and we mean hundreds of times during the year. Unlike the mass-market ‘Escape’ swims which charge hundreds of dollars to be one of 25, 50, 300, 400, or even 700+ person herd of swimmers jumping off a ferry, we limit our swim to small groups to give you the personalized attention to this delightful experience you truly deserve!
If this date doesn’t work for you, get in touch. We can schedule a custom swim to accomplish any of your San Francisco Bay swim goals and can even include the opportunity to have guest(s) on the boat to watch your swim…
This swim is typically about 2-miles (3 km) and cross-current.
TIME IN THE WATER:
The time to complete this distance is usually about 75-minutes, unless the group is particularly fast.
