Upcoming Clinics
Summer and fall clinics to be announced soon!
Great for swimmers and triathletes looking to transition their pool skills to the open water.
Move beyond the pool and into the open water. Whether you are preparing for your first triathlon or exploring open water swimming for the first time, our open water swim clinics provide the foundation you need. Based at our home port in Horseshoe Bay, Sausalito, we train in the specific conditions in the San Francisco Bay and beyond.
These 2.5-hour sessions are designed for swimmers new to open water swimming, but not NEW or beginning swimmers. We combine on shore briefings with targeted in-water drills to build your awareness and technical efficiency. Swimmers should be able to swim 400-yards non-stop freestyle in the pool. Open water clinics are not learn-to-swim sessions.
Core Open Water Skills
Our coaches focus on the practical mechanics and safety protocols required for swimming in the San Francisco Bay.
- Pre-Swim Preparation: Critical factors to evaluate before entering the water.
- Sighting & Navigation: Technical adjustments to your stroke and breathing to maintain an efficient line.
- Race-day Strategies: Specific protocols for entries, exits, pacing, and buoy turns.
- Post-Swim Recovery: Essential post-swim recovery and safety necessities for cold-water swimmers and triathletes.

The clinic has an informational “on the beach” component as well as a short-yardage, in-water training portion inside the protected waters of Horseshoe Bay.
If you have a triathlon or open water swim on your calendar, or are simply dreaming of an Alcatraz or marathon swim one day, our open water swim clinic is a great place to start or continue your journey.
