Achieving the Alcatraz Escape: Requirements and Recommendations

Our daily Alcatraz swims are perfect for moderately experienced open water swimmers. If you have the ability to swim for one hour without stopping, you can easily take on this exciting challenge. Open water swimming experience is helpful, as the water can be unpredictable. Bring or rent a wetsuit if you’re concerned about cold water temperatures, which are usually below 60°F/15°C, but can be lower in January, February, and March but has high as 65°F/18°C in the fall.

Wetsuit rentals are available in San Francisco year-round if you’re flying in to swim with us or don’t already own one. Additionally, we offer dozens of other fantastic swims, including night swimming, the Bridge to Bridge 10 km, and a Golden Gate Bridge swim, to name a few.
